had so much press about rap music causing youths to be violent- as if the youths have no mind of their own! it can be influential yeh, but causing violence?? would love to know how everyone else feels about this!

I don't think it influences violence. I do think it glorifies it in the same ways most pop culture does. I think the fact that people do emulate them is disturbing, but I know that it's also a case of art 'following' culture. The rappers didn't create the environment they sing about, they are only singing about it. |

I'm a bit late here, but I believe that rap gives way too much credit to violence. It doesn't exactly 'cause' it, but when violence does occur from kids, rap seems to glorify it and make it seem okay, or approving. |
