Does anyone else think todays "punk rock" is just pop rock with a gimmic? To me punk died with the Sex Pistols and the Ramones. i get so disgusted when I ask people what music they listen to and they say punk and their favorite band is Good Charlotte or Blink 182. Its depressing, am i alone here? |

I have been saying this for years. Call green day and there ilk whatever you like but it is not punk. By the way I am glad you put 'punk rock' in quotes. Anyone that calls it 'punk rock' does not know what they are saying. The term is punk, pure and simple. |

I wouldn't say Punk Rock died with the Ramones. It lasted at least until The Clash was over. _________________ Free Webmaster Tools

Punk has been dead for a while. There are some still waving the flag, but it sure ain't those pop darlings Green Day. That is so far from punk it pisses me off when people say it. Eyeliner and spikey hair do not make an Emo band punk |

That's a good thing. I never enjoy any kind of song of this style, it just don't belong to me. The trends are changing and the big mode is now turned to te rap/hip-hop...mabye not a good thing too |

The term punk has changed so much, i dont even think "punk" bands know if there punk or not. There is so many diferent types of rock music, evry band has there own type of style, so i just say i like rock beacuse its hard to define what type of rock they are. _________________ You only have to look in the closet and youll find me hideing. The old good punk rock has died if you ask me..
there are some new bands trying but I doubt it would be the same..
and putting Green day etc in the Punk Rock Category would just be wrong..
cous green day is not punk rock! _________________ QOTSA fan! |

punk rock has been replaced by emo. hate to tell you .
look at bands like silverstein and hawthorne. theyre huge now
I think hawthorne is releasing this big album or something and getting into the mainstream. of course, they're having a party about it at the embassy, the center of emo in london |

Punk Rock is not dead. Check out the Cherryreds. Top punkin' snotty rock n roll. And if you don't believe me check out the review below.....
NO FRONT TEETH FANZINE
THE CHERRY REDS- 'BOY HERO' CD
The CHERRY REDS' sound is f@cking sick.it's so wonderfully English and
smacks of THE BUZZCOCKS and the BOYS but with the snot of STIV BATORS and in that sense it reminds me of the American take on the early English punk sound and I love that. All those great early English bands were just lacking the snot and balls of bands like the DEAD BOYS and the ROTTERS but the CHERRY REDS have got that. F@cking excellent. The production is great because it maintains that early 'thin' sound and that's so important, early punk wasn't all thick and produced and that's the downfall of a lot of recent punk rock. This is just so punchy and so in your face that it's vulgar and that's what I love. This is a very exciting band. I got nothing else to say, this rules like crazy.

Nowadays "punk" becomes closer to "pop" than to "rock". A lot of metal men in Russia says that "punk" is pop music: everybody (who are not so lazy) make qualityless music and name it "punk"! _________________ Sorry for my bad English |

Yes, I would say "Old-School Punk" is dead. That is the best damn punk out there too. No band these days can measure up to the Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, Clash, Iggy Pop, etc. _________________
